Diameter
The most common hard line diameter is 3/16 inch (4.75mm), used on the vast majority of passenger vehicles. Some vehicles may use 1/4 inch line, but this is less common. When replacing hard lines, match the OEM diameter. Mixing diameters requires adapters and can affect flow and pressure. If you are unsure of your vehicle's specification, measure the existing line or look up the OEM specification before purchasing.
Flares and Fittings
Hard lines seal at the flare. A flare is the shaped end of the tube that seats against the fitting to form a leak-free connection under pressure.
Flare Types
Two flare types are approved for brake line use:

Double Flare (SAE/inverted flare): The standard on most North American vehicles. The tube end is folded back on itself to create a double-walled flare, which provides a strong, reliable seal.
